The Full Story

What is BEARs

BEARs Beagles was built on nearly three decades of family experience and a lifelong connection to this breed. The name BEARs itself carries the heart of my beginning — Baker, Eevee, April, and Reuben — four foundation dogs who shaped my understanding of structure, temperament, and purpose long before this program officially existed. Each of them played a role in grounding my vision, inspiring me to enter the show world, and teaching me what a correct, functional Beagle truly looks and feels like.

My journey started long before I ever stepped into a ring with dogs of my own. I grew up learning from a family deeply rooted in Beagles, absorbing the importance of soundness, temperament, and instinct from an early age. Watching my parents evaluate their dogs, plan litters, and raise puppies taught me the principles that would one day guide my own decisions. Those early lessons became the framework for BEARs and the reason I prioritize preservation, ethics, and purpose in everything I do.

When I brought Baker, Eevee, April, and Reuben into my life, each one left a mark that shaped this program’s foundation.
Baker showed me steadiness.
Eevee taught me joy and adaptability.
April brought heart and instinct.
Reuben grounded me in the value of structure and movement.

Together, they became the inspiration behind the name BEARs and the spark that pushed me fully into the show world and, eventually, into creating my own preservation-focused breeding program.

Today, BEARs Beagles reflects all of those experiences — the legacy of dogs who shaped my early years, the years I’ve spent in veterinary medicine and reproduction, and the deep respect I carry for this breed. My goal remains to honor the Beagle’s history, preserve its purpose, and raise dogs who are sound, healthy, versatile, and deeply loved.

Meet the Breeder

My name is Savannah, and my passion for Beagles is rooted in both a lifelong connection to this breed and a career built around animal health and reproduction. I grew up surrounded by Beagles, learning from my family’s nearly 30 years of experience and gaining a strong understanding of what makes this breed truly special. That early foundation shaped my values, and over the years, my work in veterinary medicine and reproductive care has strengthened them even more.

I have spent my career working hands-on in small and large animal reproduction, emergency veterinary medicine, and laboratory diagnostics. Those years gave me a deep understanding of health testing, genetic considerations, sound structure, and the long-term impact of thoughtful breeding decisions. It also taught me the importance of evaluating dogs honestly and ethically, with the betterment of the breed as the goal rather than short-term results.

These experiences ground me as a preservation breeder. They guide every choice I make within my program — from how I pair dogs, to how I raise puppies, to my commitment to maintaining the function, temperament, and structural integrity the Beagle was meant to have. My focus remains on producing healthy, sound, versatile dogs who reflect the best of the breed while honoring its history and purpose.

The Next Generation

My children are growing up in a world shaped by Beagles, much like the one I grew up in. They have been raised with the sound of paws on the floor, the excitement of show mornings, and the quiet comfort of a warm dog curled against their side. They are learning firsthand what it means to care for something with intention — to nurture, to respect, and to love a breed that has been part of our family for generations.

They help with puppies, sit ringside with bright eyes, and celebrate every small victory as if it were their own. In those moments, I see the future of this breed reflected back at me. I see the understanding they are building, the empathy they carry, and the sense of responsibility forming long before they realize its significance.

BEARs Beagles is more than a program. It is a bridge between the dogs who shaped my past and the children who will carry this legacy forward. My goal is to preserve the Beagle not only for today, but for them — for the stories they will tell, the dogs they will love, and the history they will one day continue with the same devotion that was once passed down to me.
